GERIATRICS AND HEALTH CENTERS
We use Dog-Assisted Interventions (both activities and therapies) to achieve a better quality of life for users. Always as a technical tool, therapy dogs are used by education and health professionals for individualized or group therapeutic projects.
BENEFITS
Cognitive and emotional:
Empathy: Most people identify with animals thanks to the fact that it is easier to determine an animal's feelings through its body language than those of a person.
Relationships: They can be the bond between the therapist and the patient. They can break the patient's possible initial resistance to starting any therapy.
External focus: They can be the main pillar for changing the patient's point of view towards their environment, managing to become the focus of attention, pushing away other concerns.
Acceptance: Animals have no prejudices towards people; the acceptance they offer is total, which will increase the patient's self-esteem.
Entertainment: They offer a distraction; even people who are not animal lovers are attracted to them and observe their reactions and movements.
Increase socialization: Animal visits offer greater socialization between people, causing emotions to transform into joy, optimism, decreased anxiety...
Mental stimulation: By increasing socialization and improving mood, you can stimulate the mind and avoid feelings of isolation or depression.
Physical contact: It is of great help for patients who do not like to maintain physical contact with other people or who, due to certain circumstances (abuse), cannot have it.
Sense of responsibility: They promote responsibility and respect for others, developing feelings of competence and security, which are essential for the emotional balance of individuals.
Physical:
Physiological benefits: They give the patient a feeling of relaxation.
Increased exercise and improvement of motor activities.
